About Focus on Intimacy

OUR STORY

INTIMACY IS PART OF HEALTH. IT JUST NEVER GOT TREATED THAT WAY.

I have spent twenty years prescribing equipment - wheelchairs, shower chairs, home modifications, communication aids.

In all that time there was one part of people's lives that never had a proper pathway, and it was the part nobody wanted to raise first. Sex. Intimacy. Being close to someone after your body has changed.

People asked me about it constantly, and I could rarely give them a straight answer about where to go or how to pay for it. Focus on Intimacy is my answer to that.

INTIMACY IS PART OF HEALTH

What I want this to be

A proper pathway

Equipment for intimacy should work the same way as equipment for anything else. Established need, a quote, an approval, a
delivery. Not a favour, not a workaround, not something you have to go looking for on your own.

The same options, wherever you live

I grew up in remote NSW and it shaped how I practise. People outside the major cities should get the same standard of care,
the same choices and the same dignity as everybody else. That includes this.

More than the aids

An aid is one part of the picture. Education, psychology and the relational side of intimacy matter just as much, and I would rather point you towards all of it than sell you a device and leave you there.

No label required to look

You should not have to name a diagnosis to browse. Everything here is organised by what your body actually needs - grip, reach, sensation, positioning - so you can find what fits without filing yourself under a condition first.

Every body, every goal, every kind of intimacy

I do not assume what intimacy means to you.

For some people that is penetration. For plenty of others it is not, and that is completely okay. Pleasure, connection, sensation and closeness look like a lot of different things, and there is no single right goal you are supposed to be working towards.

This site is built for everyone - however you identify, whatever your relationship looks like, and whoever you love. Queer, trans, non-binary, poly, partnered, single, still working it out. You belong here, and so does whatever it is you are hoping to find.

MEET LOUISE

Louise Whitton, Occupational Therapist and Founder

I grew up in remote NSW, and that has shaped everything about how I practise. I care a great deal about quality healthcare in rural and remote communities - making sure people outside the major cities get the same standard of care, the same options and the same dignity as everyone else.

I graduated as an occupational therapist in 2005, and I have spent the past fifteen years working in catastrophic injury management. I lead a team of allied health clinicians and nurses at Focus on Function, a mobile allied health and nursing service based in Tamworth, Armidale and Gunnedah.

Equipment prescription has always been part of that work. But sexuality and intimacy after injury, illness or disability had no proper pathway, for the person or for the clinicians supporting them. I wanted to make intimacy aids easier to access, including easier to fund, the same way it works for any other piece of assistive technology.

That is why I started Focus on Intimacy.

I am also here for the regional generalist clinicians. You do not need to be a specialist to start this conversation with someone, and you should not have to work out the rest of it alone once you have.

Where would you like to start?

If you are shopping for yourself, browse by
what your body needs. No referral, no login, no explaining yourself to anyone.

If you are a clinician or support worker, we will handle the quote and invoice the funding body directly.

And if the thing you are looking for is not here, tell me. This range grows based on what people ask for.
